Dr Zubir Ahmed MP

Welcome to my monthly newsletter!

I’m Dr Zubir Ahmed, Scottish Labour MP for Glasgow South West, and Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) for the Department of Health and Social Care.

It is the honour of my life to represent the wonderfully diverse constituency of Glasgow South West in Westminster and be part of the Central Belt that has embraced a new Labour Government.

I grew up in a working-class community in Govanhill, the heart of Glasgow. I was the oldest of five children to Pakistani parents and a grandfather who served in the Royal Hong Kong Police force. Through encouragement and the sacrifices of my Mum and Dad - a black cab driver who currently continues to work at the age of 84 - I was able to secure a place at Glasgow medical school and further training in general and vascular surgery. I have lived, studied and worked in Glasgow - I will advocate resolutely on behalf of my constituents.

Before entering politics, I worked in the NHS as a transplant surgeon and I am acutely aware of the difficulties our health system is facing and this vital public service remains close to my heart.

It was an absolute honour to be appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) for the Department of Health and Social Care by the Secretary of State, Wes Streeting. I am humbled to be a part of the team that will fix the broken health system after 14 years of Conservative failure.

In my recently launched newsletter, I will be sharing Glasgow South West updates, an overview of my constituency casework, upcoming meetings and surgeries to attend, and national news relating to the constituency and the Department of Health and Social Care. Please subscribe to keep up-to-date!
